2005 Novy Syrah (Santa Lucia Highlands)
Rating: 95
Dark and racy, with a Northern Rhône-style aroma of black pepper, cedar and black currants, but there's nothing Rhône-like about the flavor. It's distinctly California, with soft, sweetly ripe tannins bursting with blackberry jam, black currants, anise, vanilla and sweet oak flavors. The wine is fully dry. Absolutely first-rate Syrah. - S.H.

2005 Novy Syrah (Russian River Valley)
Rating: 94
Beautiful, irresistible Syrah, lush and sweet in fruit and oak. Soft and velvety, it offers layers of puréed raspberries, cherries, blackberries, blueberries and chocolate, with a rich edge of toasted marshmallow, gingerbread and butterscotch. Yet it's dry, with modest alcohol. - S.H.

2005 Novy Garys' Vineyard Syrah (Santa Lucia Highlands)
Rating: 94
Shows the way this vineyard and appellation ripen Syrah so well. Just overpowers the palate with cassis, licorice, leather and dark unsweetened, slightly bitter baker's chocolate, with a potent dose of freshly crushed pepper. So impressive, the perfect expression of great terroir in a great, cool vintage. But it's very tannic. Drink now through 2013. - S.H.

2005 Novy Judge Family Vineyard Syrah (Bennett Valley)
Rating: 90
Shows the distinctive crushed pepper aroma of a fine Northern Rhône Syrah, although the wine is much softer than anything from that region. The softness makes it gentle and easy to enjoy now, with its delicious flavors of blackberries, cherries, black raspberries, plums and milk chocolate.

2006 Novy Oley Dessert Wine Viognier, Russian River Valley

2005 Novy Rosella's Vineyard Syrah
Rating: 92 points
“Ripe black raspberry fruit and good acid structure; long, fresh and delightful" - Anthony Dias Blue
2005 Novy Judge Family Vineyard Bennett Valley Grenache
What sold us: Sonoma Grenache from the non-Pinot label of Pinot pros Adam and Dianna Lee. This particular parcel took its sweet time to ripen: The Lees didn't pick until Nov. 3. But the slow ripeness resulted in a deep, expressive wine with a huge leathery and peppery nose. Opens with a big dose of tarry dark fruit, and a broad finish that sticks with you
2005 Novy Sonoma County Syrah
A meaty syrah with good acidity. Notes of blueberry, blackberry and spice. Great tannic edge.
