"Best Wines This Past Week"
2007 Novy Cellars Page-Nord Vineyard Syrah (Napa Valley) 91 POINTS Slow to emerge elements of pepper and game bring solid Syrah credentials to this very deep, well-fruited effort, and there is still a convincing sense of structured tightness as work here that is the hallmark of an ageworthy wine. Its firm, nominally tannic finish does not entirely encourage near-term enjoyment, but there can be no doubt that time will make good things even better and we strongly encourage a wait of several years. 90 POINTS Bright, lively and fairly deep in keenly defined blackberry fruit, this well-balanced bottling is the smoothest of the several new Novy Syrahs, and its combination of richness and vitality make it a wine to watch. It emphasizes fruit over spice and is filled out by nicely fit oak, and, if it is not a brooding behemoth that demands fairly lengthy keeping, it is certain to gain further refinement over the next three to five years. 2007 Novy Family Wines Syrah Page Nord Red 93 POINTS 2007 Novy Family Wines Syrah Parsons' Vineyard Red 92 POINTS 2007 Novy Family Wines Syrah Rosella's Vineyard Red 93+ POINTS 2007 Novy Family Wines Syrah Christensen Family Vineyard Red 90 POINTS 2007 Novy Family Wines Syrah Garys' Vineyard Red 91 POINTS 2007 Novy Family Wines Syrah Napa Valley Red 91 POINTS 2007 Novy Family Wines Syrah Santa Lucia Highlands Red 90 POINTS 2006 Novy Parsons' Vineyard Syrah Russian River Valley Rating: 90 points Very ripe and extracted, just oozing the flavors of melted blackberry jam, black raspberry puree and milk chocolate.
