Wines Current Releases : 2004 Napa Valley Syrah
With as warm as the growing season was in 2004, we were
surprised to discover our 2004 Syrahs posses some of the best acidity in any of our Syrahs
to date (usually as sugars climb in the vineyard, the acid disappears.) This 2004 Napa syrah
is right inline. We’ve been presented with a nice surprise on this wine. Consistently the
Napa Syrah is a big, lush, fruit forward, warm-climate styled wined. In 2004, we have a
much more complex wine with many layers and different flavors than what we are used to
from the Page-Nord vineyard.
This syrah has the perennial hints of eucalyptus and anise, and also contains complex layers
of plum, blackberries, tea and tar. This is a bold wine that has sandy tannins and perfect
acidity giving it the ability to age a long time. In a recent vertical tasting of all the Napa
Syrahs we’ve ever produced, I was excited to taste how alive and kicking our 1999, 2000
and 2001’s were. If that is any telltale sign, this particular wine should be fun to revisit formany years to come. Enjoy with food over the next 5-10 years.
