2006 Novy Page-Nord Vineyard Syrah

The Novy Page-Nord Vineyard Syrah is, in our opinion, one of the shinning stars from the 2006 Syrah vintage. We selected only the finest barrels for this wine, with just 22% of them ultimately making the cut. Virtually the entire lot came from our favorite section of the vineyard, which oddly enough, ripens the earliest. 86% of the wine is made up of the Estrella River clone of Syrah with a mere 14% being the Phelps clone. The grapes ultimately were picked between October 16 and October 27, particularly late for this vineyard. That tells you some of the facts and figures, but the real key, of course, is in how the wine tastes. Wine Enthusiast magazine rated this wine 93 points and we are particularly fond of their description, “Made solidly in the Novy style of ripeness, power and sheer yummy deliciousness. The tannins are very big but finely ground, so you can drink it now, with decanting. Flavorwise, it’s all about currants, chocolate, licorice, cola and black pepper. Compelling, and should develop for a good six years.”
