The Papera Ranch has a long history,
being planted in the 1930s, a long-time single vineyard designated wine by DeLoach
Winery, then purchased by Constellation Wines, and ultimately, purchased again by Stuart
Colson.
Fortunately, throughout all of this movement one thing has remained constant - the quality
of the grapes. The fruit that emerges from the Papera Ranch is simply some of the finest
fruit we purchase each year.
One thing that distinguishes the Papera from our other Zinfandel Vineyards is the high proportion
of Zinfandel vines actually planted in the vineyard. Many of these older vineyards
have a number of “mixed blacks” interplanted throughout the vineyard and this often gives
the wines a different character. Being almost all Zin, the Novy Papera Ranch bottling possesses
soaring aromatics with raspberry and black cherry fruit aromas. The palate is more
serious with rich red and black fruit and hints of herbs but also great levels of natural acidity
which help keep this hedonistic wine in check. This is everything we want in a Zinfandel!.
