Our Wines  :  2006 Sonoma County Syrah

The 2006 Sonoma County Syrah is a blend of fruit from six different vineyards stretching from the warmer northern end of Dry Creek Valley to the cool Bennett Valley. However, that has not always been the case with this wine. Back in 1998, our first year of Novy, we produced 7 barrels of Sonoma County Syrah. Those 7 barrels all came from the same place, the Stage Gulch Vineyard, in the Sonoma Coast appellation. After a couple of vintages we moved on to other sites but continued with the Sonoma County designated wine, using it as an opportunity to blend the richness
of warmer growing areas with the more complex flavors that seem to occur in cooler regions.

The 2006 Novy Sonoma County Syrah is perhaps the most complex offering we have offered under this label. The wine marries the diverse vineyard locations revealing black cherry, rhubarb, mint, and cocoa powder flavors. There is a distinct cedar note and also an earthy, coal like character. This is a young wine that opens up with several hours of aeration. It can be paired now with hearty dishes but will certainly benefit if tucked away in a
cellar for several years.
