2007 Russian River Valley Zinfandel

This 2007 Novy Russian River Valley Zinfandel is the direct result of our efforts to improve our 2007 Papera Vineyard Zinfandel. In fact, the RRV Zinfandel is comprised entirely of declassified Papera Vineyard Zinfandel, coming from some younger vines on the property as well as some of the vines from our new section (they are new to us, but years old) at Papera.

In 2007 Stuart Coulson purchased the property known as the Papera Ranch and immediately started working to improve the property. His efforts included the replanting of vines that were too diseased to productively continue, as well as adding an additional irrigation line to take care of these new plants. For Novy, Stuart’s purchase of the vineyard also meant that we were able to acquire our own, larger section of fruit. We were thrilled about
this as it allowed us to experiment more with the grapes and also make a strict selection as to which barrels made the cut for the single-vineyard wine. Specifically, we selected barrels with more concentration and more backbone for the single-vineyard wine while this wine, the 2007 Novy Russian River Valley Zinfandel, is comprised of the more forward, more immediate barrels. The wine shows bold flavors of blueberries and raspberries, hints of earth, smoke, and vanilla, with a creamy texture and only modest tannins. This is the perfect Zinfandel for summertime drinking paired with something off the grill. Enjoy!
