2008 Novy Keefer Ranch Vineyard Chardonnay

The Keefer Ranch is always one of our favorite Chardonnays. It seems to combine the richness of the bigger, more full-bodied style of Chardonnay with a crispness that keeps the wine fresh and alive. This is attributable to numerous factors, including the outstanding job that Marcy & Craig do in farming the vineyard, in the cool Green Valley (western Russian River Valley) growing conditions.
The 2008 definitely continues to follow in these footsteps. It was picked on September 20 at 23.2 brix, but with a refreshing pH of 3.36. We then gently pressed the juice and let it settle in a small tank for 24 hours.
After being drained via gravity, it was fermented in mainly stainless steel and neutral oak (with just a touch of new oak). The Keefer is fresh on the nose with aromas of stone fruits, minerals and apricots, The mouthfeel is racy, fresh and vibrant with a chalky Chablis-like finish. This is a great match with baby greens, candied walnut and goat cheese salad.
